How Exude’s Employee Mental Health Training Can Help
Our Mental Health training normalizes conversations about mental health, as well as creates psychological safety for employees to receive professional support.
During this interactive training program, participants will learn about signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression so that they can be better “noticers” and supporters of others who may be struggling and/or are in crisis. We will also focus on strategies for reducing stigma and provide mental health resources.
Our learning objectives include:
- Understand the difference between mental health, mental health challenges, and mental health disorders.
- Understand the impact that stigma has on recovery and how to use “person first language” which focuses on the person vs. illness.
- Learn the early and worsening signs and symptoms of the two most common mental health disorders, anxiety and depression.
- Learn how to support employees who are experiencing a mental health crisis and challenge and resources that can be shared.
All employee wellbeing courses can be customized to meet the needs of your organization. And each session has the ability to be delivered virtually or on site, and can be offered as a single wellbeing in the workplace training session or built into a comprehensive program.
How are Prevalent Mental Health Issues in the Workplace?
It may surprise you to know that employees that have mental illness are very prevalent in the workplace. Your company most likely has several employees who are ashamed to say anything, suffering in silence, and unaware of strategies they can use to help them through rough patches day by day.
According to the world health organization, 15% of the working age are suffering from some form of mental health issue. The WHO also notes that 60% of the world’s population is in work, so if we do the math that means roughly 700-800 million employees could benefit from mental health training.
Anxiety and Depression are the most common forms of mental illness in USA. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety is highly treatable, but only just over 1/3 of people seek help for it. So, there is a high likelihood that you know of an employee or colleague who is masking a mental health issue.
How Detrimental Are Mental Health Issues to Employee Wellbeing and the Company?
Depression can be infectious, not only affecting the employee suffering but also those around them. Employee wellbeing can also dictate how much effort an employee can give towards a project. Those suffering can experience procrastination, leading to missed deadlines or incomplete projects. In rare instances, if left untreated, depression can be dangerous, putting employee, colleagues, and managers at risk.
