Powerful Self-Care Morning Ritual
One of the best thing you can do for your body as soon as you wake up is to drink at least 16oz (500mL) of room temperature water. Water fires up your metabolism, hydrates you (you lose approx. 1 lb of water during sleep), helps your body flush out toxins, gives your brain fuel, keeps your skin clear and glowing, and may even make you eat less.
It’s important to note that this should be done BEFORE drinking any other type of beverage such as coffee or soda, which can be dehydrating. Also, even though 16 oz or more of water is ideal, if you need to start with a dixie-sized cup, that’s perfectly ok. Just challenge yourself to increase it gradually.
To set yourself up for success, place the tall glass of water on your nightstand so it’s ready when you wake up and at room temperature, which is more effective.
This is one of my favorite universal tip to share with clients, since there are no negative side-effects and always results in positive well-being outcomes. In fact, a coaching client recently shared that after doing this for less than a month, she’s grown to enjoy drinking water and no longer cares to drink soda, which she was consuming three 20-ounce bottles of on a daily basis. Just think about the compounding effect of this new healthy habit!
As a bonus, you can also add a sprinkle of himalayan sea salt and/or lemon for added oomph and cleansing.
